  • Overview

    This is a part-time unpaid internship position of approximately 28 hours per week, running until approximately the end of the calendar year. The purpose of this position is to educate and gain experience in the duties outlined below:

     

    Supports Salt Lake City's Business Development Team and Corporate Recruitment and Retention Manager with Salt Lake City Business Development’s Corporate Retention Program. This program will introduce the intern to creating and facilitating relationships with local businesses and community partners by participating in on-site visits with businesses, community outreach efforts, and exposure to client information in the City-wide CRA system. Furthermore, this position will gain experience in performance analysis, report preparation, and professional development applicable to recruiting businesses to the City and retaining existing businesses.

    Responsibilities

    • Participate with the Corporate Recruitment and Retention Manager in on-site visits with Salt Lake City businesses.
    • Assist in the coordination of on-site visits for the Corporate Recruitment and Retention Manager and other pertinent City staff as determined by responses to the Business Needs Survey. Familiarizes with City resources information packets and marketing materials.
    • Attends on-site business visits with the Corporate Recruitment and Retention Manager to learn about company needs and challenges. Under the direction of the Corporate Recruitment and Retention Manger, reviews follow-up correspondence to the business with any requested information.
    • Supports the Corporate Recruitment and Retention Manager in business outreach and coordination, CRM management and updates, attending meetings and events, and other tasks as assigned.
    • May attend with the department/division at community meetings, workshops, business, and other government meetings.

    Qualifications

    • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university business administration, public administration, public policy, or other related program. 3+ completed years required; students pursing a Master’s degree preferred.
    • Strong desire to learn along with professional drive.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and preferred experience in Microsoft Project.
    • Knowledge of Salesforce is strongly preferred.
    • Knowledge of government operations, processes, and public policy analysis is a plus.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups and people, including elected officials, department officials, staff, and community representatives.
    • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision, self-reliance, and dependability
